Texas Chick-fil-A owner Jeff Glover paid workers thru shut-down, no one laid off

It's not just cows that are happy at Chick-fil-A. Some employees are pretty tickled, too. An Austin, Texas Chick-fil-A owner Jeff Glover paid workers thru a shut-down for renovations, reported Business Insider August 13. No one was laid off during the 5-month restaurant closure. In fact, Glover surprised employees with a raise for sticking with his business through its growing pains. This reversal is somewhat unprecedented in the workforce. Typically it's layoffs with no payoffs during company shut-downs, not paid and unlaid off. This change-up shocked and pleased workers who were expecting to be given marching orders during the company closure.  Texas Chick-fil-A owner Jeff Glover paid workers thru shut-down, no one laid off - Grand Rapids News | Examiner.com

Ohio lawmakers' agenda: Mandatory drug testing for welfare applicants

Mandatory welfare applicant drug tests are on Ohio lawmakers' agenda--again, reported the Mansfield News Journal on August 4. Welfare users are crying foul over substance abuse screening that would deny benefits to applicants and recipients who were also drug users. This isn't the first time legislators have enacted mandatory welfare drug testing laws. At least 13 states require drug testing for public assistance applicants. Some require all applicants be tested and others test only people who are suspected drug users.Ohio lawmakers' agenda: Mandatory drug testing for welfare applicants - Grand Rapids News | Examiner.com
